Experimental Petrology Laboratory

The Experimental Petrology Laboratory at the University of Tennessee is equipped with two 150-ton Rockland Research piston cylinder apparatuses (directed by Dygert) and three Deltech one-atmosphere gas mixing furnaces (directed by Professor Molly McCanta). In-house analytical resources include a Phenom benchtop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), a Rigaku X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), a Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) and a Cameca SX-100 Electron Probe Microanalyzer (EPMA). A sister laboratory with Laser Ablation Quadrupole Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-Q-ICP-MS) and Multicollector Mass Spectrometry is planned.
